ABOUT THE
iMATTER PROGRAM
HOW CAN THE PROGRAM BENEFIT YOUTH?
The iMatter Program, and volunteering, help to build strength, confidence and resilience, by building skills that help to ease some of the pressures of life, thereby supporting a brighter outlook and future for yourself and others. This has come from our long-standing passion to provide young people with the skills that they need to succeed in today’s world, and reinforce that it is our uniqueness that makes us strong.
KEY components of the program
Skill Building
Responsive Design
We have a series of courses, from which we will choose modules to share with the groups, to help them build skills, e.g., a quick 10-minute section on conflict resolution.
The end result of these sessions is to inspire people to choose a bold social cause that supports their passions, while building their skills and confidence to succeed in the world!
OUR program includes
3 parts
Girl Pow-R Performances
Inspirational music and interactive performances from Juno Award-nominated band Girl Pow-R.
Workshops
Participatory workshops and exercises designed to build confidence, strength and resilience.
Guided Discussions
Insightful discussions revolved around actively participating in social causes and the importance of giving back to others.
To support this, we have created video vignettes with Youth Experts, Adult Experts and Activity Suggestions on how to get involved with six different social causes.
The roll-out of a Girl Pow-R-initiated program called #iMatter has come from our long-standing passion to provide young people with the strength, confidence and resilience that they need to succeed in today’s world. We are purposefully moving away from negative language and moving to a place where we want to support the individual in an effort to realize that it is our uniqueness that makes us strong.
The CURRICULUM
We have a powerful, educator-derived curriculum for #iMatter that can be delivered in small workshops, large groups, in small bite-sized pieces, or in a 10-week curriculum.
Part of our curriculum intertwines the values of giving back through volunteering and focusing on helping others through choosing a social cause you are passionate about, and another part is very activity-based … doing things like cooking, tending to plants, exercising, dancing, painting, singing and performing … as outlets to relieve stress and take our minds off of our problems, while increasing endorphins through positive activities.
Here is our program outline and a list of the courses.
SAMPLE WORKSHEET
We have prepared a variety of worksheets in order to assist skill building amongst youths who undergo the iMatter Program.
This one below focused on conflict resolution.
